Local Redistricting Commission

California Election Code 23001 states the Board of Supervisors is to to establish a Commission type to conduct Redistricting. The Board has selected an Advisory Commission for 2021 Redistricting. This Commission is composed of a representative for each district boundary to recommend changes.

Who is on the Advisory Commission?

District 1 – Bruce Ross

I live in Redding with my wife and two daughters.  When I’m not coaching youth soccer, I work as the District Director for Senator Brian Dahle and I am member of the Redding School District Board of Trustees.

District 2 – Betty Harrison-Smith

I am currently retired. I was a Supervisor at the Smart Business Resource Center in Redding. I worked in the job search division and supervised contracts that Smart Center held with Shasta County. I was an Instructor at Shasta College and National University. I was also the Chaplain for the Redding Police Department

My current duties are: a Chair for the Shasta County Commission on Aging, a Trustee for the Shasta Union Elementary School District Board of Trustees (22 years total), a Chair for Pastoral Care Team at All Saints’ Episcopal Church, a Vice President for the Episcopal Community Services Board of Directors, Diocese of Northern California and I am also a member of the Redding Rotary.

District 3 – Kerry Caranci

I am the Chief Executive Officer for the Community Foundation of the North State.  I also serve as the Treasurer on the Board of the League of California Community Foundations and I am active member in Redding West Rotary. I am a Leadership Redding graduate.

District 4 – Mark Kent

I was born in Yreka California, my family moved all over the state of California because of my Fathers work with Cal Trans. I have lived in every part of the state at one time or another.

I have been self-employed since I was 7 years old. My first business was a worm farm. I went on to other various businesses. I was also employed by various government agencies included CDF as Timber Faller, USFS Fighting Fire, US Army as a power diesel generation mechanic and the Public Works Department at the City of San Mateo.

To help pay my son’s million dollars in cancer medical bills, I started a tax preparation and consulting business, while also working for and being mentored by some very experience businessmen. I have been practicing in the field of Taxation for about 36 years now specializing in small business tax strategies. I also specialize in trouble shooting any problems concerning engagements with the IRS including but not limited to audits, collection, recordkeeping, entity selection and implementation.

I have also been involved with and helped set up and run several not for profit corporations and associations.  I am currently a radio talk show host as well.

District 5 – Jane Work

I was born and raised and lived in northern California my entire life. I worked in the social services field for 40 years. I retired from Shasta County where I worked as a Program Manager, Director of Social Services and HHSA Branch Manager. I currently live in beautiful Anderson. My hobbies include wildlife and sports photography, cooking, woodworking, repurposing/recycling furniture and home décor. I played competitive softball for 45 years and now I am enjoying retirement!

I am very involved in community activities including a founding board member of The Women’s Fund and a member of the Chico and Redding Rotary Clubs for many years. I have served on numerous community boards and committees in both the Chico and Redding areas. I coached youth sports and I currently sit on the Board of Directors for the Frontier Senior Center in Anderson.
